Pedagogy

The course takes 3 years (6 semesters) to end with a Bachelor’s degree after a final examination, which includes a discussion of the dissertation presented.

The purpose of this specialty is to prepare a qualified teacher to work with children in kindergartens and primary school forms 1 to 3.

Ateneum – University in Gdansk aims at a high quality of training and provides for a versatile education of the graduates, who acquire practical skills useful in the job market. The high quality can be achieved by means of lectures based on state-of-the-art teaching aids and practical classes partly carried out as case-studies.

An important element in the curriculum is the obligatory employment training with location options found for the students by the University’s Career Bureau. The graduates are entitled to apply for teacher jobs in kindergartens, “0” forms, and primary school forms 1 to 3.

  • Diagnostication and backing of children’s development dispositions.
  • Diagnostication of children’s speech problems.
  • Acquisition of early education methods for forms 1 to 3 and of kindergarten methodology for didactics, caretaking, and rearing.
  • Acquisition for further studies, including the second cycle (Master’s) ones.

The students can join scientific circles in which they have opportunities to add to their knowledge, make new acquaintances, and become involved in the University’s life.

Those interested in sports are welcome to join the Academic Sports Association, an organization of long standing, with excellent achievements in many types of sporting.

There is also a student’s parliament. This invites each student to take part in the campaigns and travels initiated.

A new and perfectly equipped computer room for the students will be available in the University’s new building since the academic year 2013/2014.

Handicapped students are welcome as well. The can take advantage of whatever could facilitate their knowledge acquisition and displacement within the premises.

Early education and speech therapy graduates are, due to their studies and employment training, adequately prepared and skilled to work as teachers assessing speech problems in kindergartens, “0” forms, and primary school forms 1-3.
Each graduate has a structured general and special knowledge and is acquainted with sciences adjacent to the pedagogy of pre-school and early school education. Furthermore, each graduate has the knowledge and the skills necessary for an efficient caretaking, which depends on a genuine interest in children’s health, safety, proper physical development, recreation, and hygiene.

The course takes 3 years (6 semesters) to end with a Bachelor’s degree after a final examination, which includes a discussion of the dissertation presented.

The purpose of this specialty is to provide for a general and specific knowledge with the practical skills necessary to implement pre-school and early school education, including the teaching of English at this level.

Such diplomas entitle to apply for teacher jobs in state-owned and other kindergartens or primary schools (forms 1-3). The right to teach English there is an additional privilege.

  • Subject teaches how to diagnosticate and support children’s development dispositions.
  • It enables to grasp the early school methodology (to be used in forms 1-3) as well as the pre-school education methodology of didactics, caretaking, and rearing.
  • It enables to grasp the methodology of teaching English as a second language in kindergartens and primary school forms 1-3.
  • It prepares for second cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.

Each graduate should be proficient as a teacher involved in pre-school and early school (forms 1-3) education, with special linguistic and methodological skills enabling to teach English. Due to their qualification, the graduates can be employed in state-owned and other kindergartens or primary schools (forms 1 to 3) and teach the language there. In addition to that, second-cycle (Master’s) or different further studies are the options available.

The purpose is to prepare qualified specialists in social rehabilitation pedagogy. A diploma in this specialty entitles to apply for social rehabilitation jobs in caretaking and rearing institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Education, social rehabilitation institutions of unions, diagnostic and consulting centres, reformatory institutions, court guardianship, penal institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Justice, and in the police force or the city guards system.

This specialty prepares for second-cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.

  •  It teaches how to diagnosticate pathologies and prevent such phenomena.
  • It teaches how to carry out a social rehabilitation of minors and adults in specialized institutions, both in the open and the closed system.
  • It teaches how to formulate diagnoses (assessments) and forecasts as well as how to select suitable social rehabilitation methods.
  • It prepares for second-cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.

Social rehabilitation pedagogy graduates are prepared for participation in:

-       Social prophylaxis as those who can diagnosticate any threads to the communities and provide for adequate prevention programmes as well as for their implementation..

-       Social rehabilitation and psychocorrection: as there who can diagnosticate etiologies and rearing deficits, provide for group and individual  programmes of social rehabilitation, diagnosticate caretaking and rearing functions of families, plan isolated and open therapies for families or groups (including sociotherapy, occupational therapy, music therapy, drama and other options).

The graduates are prepared for employment in social counseling and rehabilitation institutions (diagnostic centres, addiction clinics, state and self-government administration crisis intervention centres), in schools (as therapists/educationists or counselors), in the armed forces and the police force (as prevention officers), in law-courts (as court/penitentiary probation officers).

The purpose is to prepare specialists in caretaking and rearing for Ministry of Education institutions of this type, social aid institutions, court guardianship etc.

A diploma of this specialty entitles to apply for jobs invoking in social or caretaking work (both combined with rearing) at centres of psychological and educational counseling, social aid offices and homes, NGOs or centres of social support and developmental jeopardy elimination. Further options are community assistant and community caretaker jobs At emergency caretaking institutions, centres of adoption and caretaking, with therapy groups etc.

The specialty prepares for second-cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.

  • It provides for a knowledge and skills to be used in caretaking and rearing work at such institutions.
  • It teaches how to diagnosticate behavioural deficits in children or adolescents and to eliminate these complications.
  • It teaches how to support children or adolescents in crises, as well as their parents whenever a proper care must be guaranteed.
  • It prepares (in a conscientious manner) for second-cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.

-       rearing, caretaking, and social work at emergency caretaking institutions or centres of adoption and caretaking, with therapy groups, at diagnostic and social rehabilitation institutions, local rearing centres or centres of support to children and family as well as within the court guardianship system;

-       caretaking, rearing, and social work at centres of psychological and educational counseling, civil parish offices, NGOs, centres of social support and developmental property elimination as well as community assistance and caretaking work;

-       community promotion of culture (combined with cultural education) at local centres, clubs, activities rooms, holiday and recreation centres or for different enterprises;

-       work at recovery centres for children, adolescents, and adults.

The purpose is to prepare for tasks associated with occupational career creation, choice of occupations, qualification changes, and adoption to the needs of the dynamic job market.

A diploma in this specialty entitles to apply for employment in educational or caretaking and rearing institutions, in counseling, diagnostication or occupational training institutions, in Labour Offices, and in different enterprises (as staff specialists).

This specialty prepares for second-cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.

  • It provides for social communication skills.
  • It teaches how to apply educational diagnostication methods.
  • It teaches how to manage staff teams.
  • It teaches how to implement an occupational pre-orientation of adolescents.
  • It provides for competences necessary to present requalification options.
  • It prepares for second-cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.
  • A diploma in this specialty entitles to apply for employment in educational or caretaking and rearing institutions, in counselling, diagnostication or occupational training institutions, in Labour Offices, and in different enterprises (as staff specialists).

The three-year Bachelor’s studies in labour pedagogy and occupational counseling are intended to provide for a basic knowledge within general pedagogy, psychology, and sociology, enabling to grasp the social and cultural content of education, rearing, and labour. Each graduate should acquire the practical skills which are necessary to initiate an efficient social communication and to apply educational diagnostication methods.

The graduates will be prepared for tasks associated with occupational career creation, choice of occupations, qualification changes, and adoption to the needs of the dynamic job market.

Each graduate is qualified to be employed in occupational counselling (in a broad interpretation of the term), with Labour Office and corporate jobs as typical options.

The course takes 3 years (6 semesters) to end with a Bachelor’s degree after a final examination, which includes a discussion of the dissertation presented.

The purpose is to transfer a general knowledge of librarianship and scientific informing as well as skills necessary to make specialized descriptions of library collection items, and the collections useful in children’s and adolescents’ education.

The graduates can expect to become employed as librarians by primary, junior, and secondary schools as well as by caretaking and rearing institutions.

The specialty is a god preparation for second-cycle (Master’s) and other further studies.

Each graduate has, after 3 years of such studies, a general knowledge of librarianship and scientific informing. He or she can also make specialized description of library collections and the collections themselves useful in the process of education.

The six semesters with a adequate occupational training do provide for a knowledge and skills, which facilitate the finding, selection, and assessment of information, whereby the typical tools of informing on collections, data bases, and Internet services can prove applicable as well.

Another essential aspect of this academic education is the graduates’ awareness of reader-influencing methods, library promotion, marketing and publicity for books, intellectual property protection, and present-day library work organization.

Each graduate can be employed as a highly competent specialist, by libraries or caretaking and rearing institutions.
