Journalism and social communication

The course takes 3 years (6 semesters) to end with a Bachelor’s degree after a final examination, which includes a discussion of the dissertation presented.

The purpose of this speciality is to impart a workshop knowledge within press, radio, and television journalism.

Aiming at a high quality of the didactic process, Ateneum wants each graduate to have a multifarious education and practical skills that can prove necessary in the job market. The education and skills in question are due to state-of-the-art teaching aids used during the lectures, and to workshop classes.

Obligatory training away from the University is an important element of the didactic process. Ateneum does help the students to find the training enterprises or institutions.

These studies combine a politological, economical, cultural, historical, and legal knowledge with the workshop skills that lead to a journalistic proficiency.

This speciality prepares for jobs in the mass media, including the press, radio, and TV, as well as an employment in social communication (which is given a wide interpretation).

These studies are also aimed at a good preparation for second-cycle (Master's) and postgraduate studies.

-       It is a source of skills enabling to become involved, as a professional, in a widely
        interpreted social communication, i.e. in public relations, advertising/publicity,
        promotion, and media education.

-       It prepares for second-cycle (Master's) and postgraduate studies.

-       It offers workshop classes at an RTV studio with up-to-date equipment.

-       It teaches how to prepare a radio broadcast.

The students have a rare opportunity to work at a new RTV studio with state-of-the-art equipment. This leads to a grasping of the sound treatment techniques and to an efficient preparing of radio broadcasts. Those interested in sports can join the Academic Sports Association, an organization of long standing with excellent achievements in many types of sporting. There is also a students' parliament, which encourages the students to take part in the campaign and travels initiated. This University welcomes handicapped students too. They can take advantage of whatever may facilitate their knowledge acquisition and displacement within the premises.

Each graduate can become a journalist working for periodical mass media (i.e. the press, radio, TV, and Internet).

Each graduate does understand the main processes in the political and social reality as well as those in economy and culture. This is true of any perspective, be it local (regional) or national and even international.

The skills acquired enable the graduates to become professionals in a widely interpreted social communication, i.e. in PR, advertising, promotion, and media education.

The graduates' preparation for second-cycle (M.A.) and postgraduate studies meets the highest standards.
